Battery Safety Guidelines
Battery Safety
Vape batteries are significantly more powerful than your standard AA or AAA batteries and require careful handling. This battery safety guide will help you understand how to use and care for these batteries. If you own a regulated vape mod powered by batteries like 18650s or 20700s, this guide is for you.
Caring for Your Batteries
We strongly recommend using a battery cover or holder when transporting batteries to prevent them from touching each other or other metallic objects. Always ensure that the wraps of your batteries are in pristine condition. If you notice a nick on the battery wrap, the safest course of action is to re-wrap it. Battery wraps are inexpensive and easy to apply. If you don’t have wraps, visit your local vape shop. Most vape shops will be happy to re-wrap the batteries for you.
Use Battery Cases
Never throw batteries in your pockets or bags when not in use. Instead, invest in some affordable plastic battery cases to protect your batteries from potential short circuits with metal objects. This could cause your battery to vent and potentially explode.
Use the Right Batteries
Some batteries are better suited for low-wattage vaping, while others are better for sub-ohming, and some are not even meant for vaping at all. When choosing batteries for your mod, ensure they meet the appropriate specifications. Don’t rely solely on the numbers printed on the battery wraps, as they can be misleading. Pay close attention to the correct way to insert the batteries to avoid venting. Even if your mod has reverse polarity protection, make sure the batteries are inserted correctly.
Don’t Leave Batteries Charging Unattended
It’s never a good idea to leave your batteries charging unattended, especially overnight. Although rare, battery chargers are electronic devices, and failures are not uncommon. Always keep an eye on your charging batteries and place them in battery cases when you’re not around.
When charging your battery, regularly check if it’s finished. As soon as charging is complete, remove it from the charger to prevent overcharging, which can lead to battery failure. Always charge batteries on a fireproof surface and avoid leaving them unattended or overnight.
Extreme temperatures should never be exposed to the chemicals in the battery, so keep it at room temperature and away from fire! Regularly check for damage or dents and discard the battery if any are found.
Use extreme caution when working with rechargeable Lithium Ion 18650 cells. Ensure you have sufficient knowledge of Li-Ion batteries before using them for charging, discharging, and assembly.
